Wemblin' Fools
Sep. 12th, 2022 10:20 pmWembley and Gobo were best friends, and there wasn't a soul in Fraggle Rock who didn't know that. It was hard to miss the fact that they were almost always together, or the clear admiration they had for one another. But... Lately, Wembley found himself puzzled and uncertain about this relationship that had been a given for as long as he could remember. Even for a wembler like him, it was a shock that there could be any question about it! It wasn't that Wembley didn't want to be Gobo's best friend anymore. Of course not, that would never happen. But he was wondering if that was all he wanted to be to Gobo.
Gobo's breakdown under the Gorg bridge had been eye-opening, but not in a sad way. Well, okay, it had been super sad in the moment, and Wembley's heart ached for his friend, but now with some distance? Wembley had been thinking about how vulnerable Gobo had been in that moment... It had been relatable. Sometimes, it was easy to look up to Gobo as so brave and heroic, but in some ways he was so much like Wembley himself. And that new perspective had brought with it new, or at least, newly recognized feelings.
...Maybe. Wembley just wasn't sure if his feelings for Gobo were actually something besides friendship! It was so hard to tell, because they were such good friends. Maybe Wembley felt something there, but maybe it was just a new step in what they already had.... It was so hard to know! And he couldn't say anything to Gobo ahead of knowing for sure, because it wouldn't be fair if something developed, only for Wembley to realize he'd been wrong. It could ruin everything. He just wished he could figure things out.
Of course, even with all of this on his mind, Wembley was still a Fraggle. He wasn't exactly dwelling on this. It was on his mind, but not to the point where he couldn't still have fun. Like today! He'd had great fun splashing around in the Fraggle Pond with Red and Mokey, and even snacks provided by Boober had barely been enough to coax the three out of the water. Now, they ate sitting with their feet in the pond, despite Boober's remark about foot cramps still being possible.
