Wishes

Louie hadn't been sure about coming to the festival. A "Festival of Wishes" just sounded so hokey, but in the end he'd decided a change of scenery and pace would be nice. He hadn't dressed up for the occasion or anything, but the food proved to be good and he did write down a wish for good business ahead, even if he still didn't have a business model in mind. Of course, Louie made a point to avoid the Test of Courage - no thank you - and he was far too skeptical to try a carnival game. He was more the sort to set up a crooked game of chance, after all. Maybe a little less these days, but the point stood.

So, having eaten his fill and made his wish, Louie wound up kind of aimlessly wandering through the crowd, which was when he spotted a familiar face that always brought a smile. He called out across the path to his best friend, waving.

"Hey!"

Rei is also not wearing one of the robes she has seen others wearing. She's been meandering around the stalls, watching people play games and eat snacks. She had picked up a little paper fan, which she waves occasionally to keep the heat at bay. She is sure it will be slightly cooler once the sun starts going down.

"Are you enjoying the festival so far?" she asks, once she runs into her friend. She does not bother with the pleasantries. It is understood.

By this point, Louie is far from bothered by how to-the-point Rei is. However, that doesn't mean he responds in kind; Louie gets more out of talking than deals and ways out of his own messes. Being conversational is just how he feels comfortable; natural.

"It's okay, I guess?" he replies with a shrug. "I mean, nothing's gone horribly wrong so far, which is always a plus." And not something to be taken for granted in this world. "What do you think of it?"

[instrumentally]

"There are many things to do."

It's true. It is bright and glowing, with many people taking part in the offered activities.

He has to bite back a laugh, though it's one of genuine amusement rather than an unkind one. They speak on the PokeGear, sure, but half the time that's over text. And plenty of people who don't talk like Rei still type like her; seeing her in person is different. She's just... Weird, but in the best possible way.

"Yep, there is. Have you had anything to eat yet?"

"I have tried the mochi. It is pleasant."

Many flavors, too. Some she has not tried yet.

"Yeah, it's good, huh? I've had it before, but I'd never seen so many different kinds." He paused to laugh. "I even saw someone's selling durian flavored mochi? I'm not sure how I feel about that."
